Pharmacological action:
The anti-infectious activity of oxytetracycline is very large, with bacteriostatic action against a large number of Grampositive and Gramnegative bacteria, both aerobic and anaerobic, as well as Mycoplasma and Rickettsia. The broad spectrum of activity and excellent tissue diffusion allows the use of oxytetracycline 10% as a treatment of choice in several infections encountered in veterinary medicine, particularly: digestive, respiratory and urogenital infections.
Therapeutic indications:
For the treatment of infections caused by gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, ricketts organism, mycoplasma in cattle, horse, sheep, goat and swine.
Administration and Dosage:
The general dose is 1 ml per 10-20 kg body weight for intramuscular injection.
Side-effects:
Hypersensitivity reactions, intestinal disturbances may occur after administration. Local tissue reactions after intramuscular injection in horses or foals and seldom severe enteritis may occur in horses.
Precautions:
1.It should be used cautiously in horses.
2.Do not use in animals with severely bad liver and kidney function.
Withholding periods: Cattle, sheep, swine and horses: 28 days, milk: 7 days.
