California becomes the Fourth State in US to ban Cadmium in children's jewelry

With increasing concerns on the use of cadmium and it's associated health risks, four states in the US have introduced legislation restricting cadmium in children's jewelry including California, Connecticut, Illinois and Minnesota. Similar legislation are proposed in the State of New Jersey, New York and Rhode Island.Summary table for the States passed the law to ban Cadmium:1. Minnesota Bill SF2510 has been approved into law on May 15, 2010. This law shall be effective from January 1, 2011 onwards. Soluble cadmium content in children's jewelry shall not exceed 0.0075% by weight.
2. Connecticut Bill HB No. 5314 has been approved into law on June 4, 2010. From July 1, 2014, no person shall manufacture, sell, offer for sale or distribute any children's jewelry that the total cadmium content is more than 0.0075% by weight.
3. IllinoisBill HB 5040 has been approved into law on July 29, 2010. The act, "Cadmium-Safe Kids Act", takes effect immediately. According to the law, no person may manufacture, knowingly sell, offer for sale, distribute for sale, or distribute for use children's jewelry containing soluble cadmium content exceeding 0.0075% by weight.
4. California Bill SB 929 has been approved into law on September 27, 2010 which will be effective from January 1, 2012. According to the law, no person shall manufacture, ship, sell, offer for sale, or offer for promotional purposes children's jewelry that contains any component or is made of any material that is more than 0.03% cadmium (300 ppm) by weight.
