Purpose and scope
The instrument is designed and made as per GB/T 4507-84 Technical Requirement for Determination of Softening Point of Asphalt. It is used to determine the softening point of asphalt under heating condition.
The asphalt cast in brass ring, are heated while it supports a steel ball. The softening point is reported as the temperature at which the asphalt softens enough to allow the ball, enveloped in asphalt, to fall a distance of 25 mm.
Main technical specification and parameters
1. It can test two samples at the same time.
2. The brass ring is like a truncated reversed cone. Its height is about 6.35 mm, the diameter of upper opening is 17.46 mm and the diameter of lower opening is 15.88 mm.
3. The diameter of the steel ball is 9.53 mm and its weight is 3.50±0.05 g.
4. The distance between the bottom of brass ring and the bottom plate is about 25.4 mm.
5. The height mark for the medium in bath is 51 mm from the sample plate.
6. The bath is a beaker of 800 ml. Its diameter is not less than 90 mm
and its height is not less than 140 mm.
7. The scale range of thermometer is from 30 to 180 .
The division scale is 0.5 (It is in accord with GB/T514-75).
