Your arm, bent at the elbow, rests in the sling. A sling can be as simple as a belt or loop of cloth tied around your neck. It may be a wide piece of fabric or a scarf. To take the weight off your neck, some slings have a strap that goes around your neck and down your back. This strap is connected to the elbow side of the sling. When your injured shoulder, arm, wrist, or hand is in the sling, the weight is on your neck and back. Some slings have a strap, from the elbow side of the sling that goes around your back.
