Shikimic acid (aniseed extract) is an organic acid isolated from the ripe fruit of Illicium verum Hook . It is colourless needles (methanol/ethyl acetate), mp: 186-187oC, [α]18D -183.8c=4.03,H2O. It is an important raw material for pharmaceutical industry.
