How to make you own lady hat?

Traditionally, ladies hats are fancy, elaborate and decorative pieces. In polite society, ladies wear hats to church and other social occasions, such as tea, dinners, weddings, horse derbies and other formal affairs. Ladies' hats can be expensive and are sometimes difficult to match with a certain dress or outfit. To save money and show off your own creative skill, make your own lady's hat at home.

Recycle a simple ladies hat. Carefully remove any ribbons, feathers or decorations on the ladies hat. Spray paint the hat, if desired, to change the color. Apply two coats of paint to the top and bottom of the hat, allowing coats to dry in between.

Cut a piece of thick ribbon to tie a bow around the hat.

Cut 2 yards of ribbon for a long, fancy bow, or cut 1 yard for a short bow. Wrap the ribbon around the brim of ladies hat, leaving long strands on both sides for tying a bow. Use a hot glue gun to attach the ribbon around the brim of ladies hat. If the ribbon is too thick for the brim, simply fold it in half (with the edges facing down) and glue to ladies hat. Smooth bumps and wrinkles of the ribbon before the glue dries.

Allow glue to dry fully. Tie a knot to secure the ribbon. Then, tie a bow, as big or small as desired. Trim the strands of the bow to desired length.

Add other decorations and embellishments, as desired. For an ultra-fancy ladies hat, add feathers or flowers to ladies hat. Dip the end of a feather in hot glue and tuck it behind the ribbon. Attach artificial flowers or faux birds to the brim of ladies hat. Use hot glue to permanently attach these decorations; use small safety pins if you want to remove them and alternate different colors or schemes to coordinate with different outfits.
