With the direct technology support of Wolfson microelectronics, after 10 months deep development of 8741+8805, finally brought us the 5i-10.

Wolfson microelectronics launched the all new high-performance stereo digital to analog converter aimed at High-End audio application market. This unique innovated WM8741 consolidate Wolfson’s leading position in high-performance audio market.

 

WM8741 combined the ultra-high performance and the famous Wolfson out-of-band noise and linearity, and the special programmable advanced digital filter together, this chip can generate a "simulation feeling" sound which is more natural than the past traditional digital to analog converter, and it is known as "the most simulation taste of D/A chip".

 

WM8741 can provide 128db SNR (mono), therefore it can be set to meet the most performance demanding requirements of various application, and through the audio filtering clipping, you can always achieve desired auditory experience.

It is due to the unique properties of WM8741, so we decided that the the WM8741 for developing a DAC, and as our upcoming digital audio standard configuration.

The original design is in the form of “dual WM8741 + WM8805 & DIR9001 Multi-function decoding”, it is a little bit like a trial, want to verify the two receiving IC’s voice characteristics, the final result is the WM8805, reason is simple: it is smooth and classic.

WM8805 successfully solved the S/PDIF audio data transmission problem in most high quality and high performance audio system application. This transceiver contains a built-in high-performance phase-locked loop (PLL), its inherent jitter cycle is 50ps, dithering inhibition frequency is 100Hz. The difference between other similar transceivers is: as for the audio system, jitter produced by WM8805 can be neglected. Normal S/PDIF transceiver can only restrain jitter above 10KHz, but can’t help with medium/low frequency jitter, this is a major influence on audio quality. On the other hand, WM8805 can restrain these original timing problem above 100Hz in the signal, therefore eliminates any useless audio distortion in this important audio range.

As a standard S/PDIF connection device, users and designers can’t control the signal quality from a third party S/PDIF input. Wolfson’s phase locked loop technique makes the WM8805 transceiver can recover the low quality input signal and lock the timing, thus it can accept S/PDIF signal from any source, even if it is extremely weakened.

Another advantage from this high performance phase locked loop technique is that it can reduce the quantity of components used in the whole system, it can be used for synthesis of crystal oscillator derived the clock signal, and without any external filter, it could be a high quality master clock source in the audio system.

In the tune process, we always use the neutral CHORD RED REFFERENCE as the comparing standard, in order to obtain excellent balance, this is the most basic things. Reference level CDs normally have nothing special and outstanding, or maybe they are special for no weakness. CHORD is faultlessly good in density, speed, analyzing ability and background quietness. As a “benchmarking” level of Hi-end equipment, it is almost not realistic to fully meet the performance level of it, so we chose a few reference target: density, analyzing ability and background quietness, those are some commonness for Hi-end equipment. If these aspects are close, plus those features of WM8741, it will be an absolutely excellent equipment.

Sound tune system: 

WM8741 is different from other DA, especially the 17xx series. The biggest characteristic is: coherence and dark, especially the coherence. It’s not like the 17xx, present the sound in a granular way, but in a linear way, plus the slightly dark voice, let you feel no constriction. Nice sound must not make you feel noisy and loud, 8741 has congenital advantage in this aspect, so its excellent music expression makes it free from vulgarity. Compare with TDA1541’s mid-frequency.
