The overshot has a latching mechanism that connects to spear point on the top of the latching head to permit retrieving the inner barrel from the bottom of the hole without the entire drill string having to be removed.The overshot is a necessary part of the wireline system.The overshot is used to lift the inner tube assembly to ground from the bottom of the hole once the inner tube is full of core, because the overshot has a latching mechanism that connects to the spear point on the top of the latching head to permit retrieving the inner barrel, the entire drilling string need not to be removed. Overshot is a modified product based on compact overshot. It protects against accidental release of the core barrel. This is ideal for suface application when hoisting above ground.
