Blast Shaft Furnace Gas Holder
Blast Furnace Gas Holder
Blast-furnace gas is an important by-product of pig-iron production. Main constituents include carbon monoxide (30%) and nitrogen (57%). Treated blast-furnace gas was used to fuel the gas engines in the Engine House which is the largest building in the Park. As blast-furnace gas production and consumption were not always balanced, a gasholder was operated to store surplus gas and to provide an additional source of supply in periods of high demand. The wet gasholder stored a maximum of 20,000 cubic meters of gas.
