Blowout preventers arespecifically designed for well servicing, workover, and light drilling. BOP is available with internal or external hydraulics in bore sizes from 2-9/16'' to 6-3/8'' and working pressures from 5,000 PSI to 15,000 PSI for standard or sour service, with the following features:
1. Manual or Hydraulic open/ close bonnets for easy ram change
2. Internal hydraulics; different types of rams
A) blind ram, which have no openings for tubing, can close off the well when the well does not contain a drill string or other tubing, and seal it.
B) pipe ram, which close around a drill pipe, restricting flow in the annulus (ring-shaped space between concentric objects) between the outside of the drill pipe and the well bore.
C) shear ram, which cut through the drill string or casing with hardened steel shears.
3. All rams hydraulically actuated with visual position indicator and manual locking actuator. Each ram actuator is equipped with a manual locking handle. After rams are hydraulically closed, they can be locked in loose position with a manual stem/ handle. Should hydraulic fail, the rams can be manually closed. Hydraulic must be re-established and used to re-open the rams.
