DVI (Digital Visual Interface) is the new interface for Digital flat panel LCD monitors and video cards which was developed by the Digital Working Group(DDWG).
Because the resolution of P&D or DFP is only 1280*1024 pixels("SXGA")while the future HDTV needs a resolution of 1920*1080 pixel,
the DVI interface is becoming more prevalent and is expected to become widely used for digital display devices, including flat-panel displays and emerging digital CRTs.
It's maximum resolution can be up to 2048*1536 pixel. Another advantage is that the digital signal can be transmitted to an analog device via DVI interface directly without a double conversion.
There are a number of terms of DVI, including DVI-1 (analog&digital together), DVI-D (digital only)and DVI-A (analog only).
