I would say about 1 1/2 cups. Any more and the twist tie might not hold securely.2)can you tell me how many millimeters thick the plastic is please? It does not say on the package but they are sufficiently thick for bagging holiday cookies, which is the purpose for which I bought them. If I had to guess I would say 2 ml because I have shoes with a 3 ml bottom and the bags are thinner but they are not as thin as some 1 mil laminating film with which I am familiar. I hope that helps.3)Do these bags have a flat bottom (like a paper brown lunch bag)? In other words, will they stand on their own when filled or fall over? They do not stand up unless you put a flat object inside of them (like a stack of cookies). If you were to pour in little candies, for example, the bag would fall over.
